With the lower-body injury to Jonas Johansson lingering, and a back-to-back on the road looming, the Tampa Bay Lightning recalled Matt Tomkins from the Syracuse Crunch. This will be the 26-year-old’s second stint with the Lightning this season. He began the season in Tampa, serving as Johansson’s back-up while Andrei Vasilevskiy was on injured reserve.
Since returning to Syracuse, Tomkins appeared in 29 games, posting a 15-12 record with a 2.53 GAA and .904 SV%, helping the Crunch reach the top of the standings in the North Division. The Crunch are off until Friday, so he won’t be missing any games until the weekend.
