The Tampa Bay Lightning kept the good times going as they scored twice in the third period to extend their winning streak to eight games with a 3-1 victory over the Washington Capitals. Mitchell Chaffee opened the scoring in the first period with a power play goal, and Gage Goncalves scored a big insurance goal in the third period to keep the Bolts in the lead prior to Alex Ovechkin’s 31st of the season. Brandon Hagel sealed the win with an empty net goal to back Andrei Vasilevskiy’s 20 saves.
For a game between two of the league’s top offenses, it was a tightly-played game that offered few legitimate scoring sequences.
