TORONTO — Kings forward Dustin Brown was suspended for one game without pay Sunday for his knee-to-knee hit on Lightning defenseman Mikhail Sergachev.
Brown got a five-minute major and a game misconduct at 14:30 of the second period Saturday after taking down Sergachev, who left the game but returned.
Brown had "sufficient time to attempt a legal, full body hit, or allow Sergachev to pass by him untouched," the NHL Department of Player Safety said in announcing its ruling after a hearing. "Instead, he extends his knee to ensure contact will be made in what is a dangerous and unnecessary fashion.
