TAMPA — He can still skate.
When Lightning defenseman Braydon Coburn reached the milestone of 900 games earlier this season, Coach Jon Cooper delivered that simple but telling bit of praise.
"One of Coby’s best assets is moving around on the ice,” Cooper said.
The 34-year-old defenseman skated in 74 games this season finishing out his 14th year in the league in memorable fashion as his team completed one of the most remarkable seasons in NHL history.
But like any veteran, time continues to curb Coburn’s abilities. In fact, many believe the 6-foot-5 blueliner could be in danger of losing his roster spot this summer even though his skating prowess allows him to keep up with the younger men in the game.
