Dave Andreychuk going into Hall of Fame

Times files (2004)

For Dave Andreychuk, the wait is finally over.

Andreychuk, 53, a former Lightning captain, is part of the next Hockey Hall of Fame class. He joins Teemu Selanne, Paul Kariya, Dave Andreychuk, Mark Recchi, Danielle Goyette, builders Clare Drake and Jeremy Jacobs.

Andreychuk is certainly deserving, with 640 career goals, and racked up the most power play goals in NHL history. He helped lead the Lightning to its only Stanley Cup in 2004. But he had to wait since 2009, when he was first eligible, to get that unforgettable call.

Andreychuk spoke last year how tough the wait was.
