TAMPA — The main negotiating team that represents Lightning captain Steven Stamkos arrived in Tampa for Wednesday’s morning skate.
While the presence of Don Meehan, head of Newport Sports, and Mark Guy, Stamkos’ agent, created a bit of a stir shortly after they sat down, the trip is a planned business opportunity and has nothing to do specifically with Stamkos, who is in the final year of his contract.
“Just a chance to see a good game with many clients tonight,’’ Guy said. “Thanksgiving is a trip we make every year.’’
Guy said they represent a large group of players on the Los Angeles Kings while also listing Vladislav Namestnikov, Ondrej Palat and Luke Witkowski as clients on the Lightning.
