Bolts notes: Injury index grows as C Boyle leaves game early

TAMPA — Nobody can say youth isn’t being served at Amalie Arena this season.

A flurry of injuries to Lightning forwards has taxed the depth of the organization and the infirmary added another wounded player Sunday night when C Brian Boyle, a key penalty killer who has chipped in eight goals and boasts a plus-5 rating, played only one shift.

Boyle was crushed into the side boards by burly Senators D Mark Borowiecki and hobbled off the ice, with a cut on the top of his nose and a possible concussion.

“We’re losing guys on the first shift of the game,’’ said Lightning coach Jon Cooper, who played the rest of the night with only 10 forwards.
