LOS ANGELES — As soon as the stick of San Jose forward Tomas Hertl sliced through an opening in Ben Bishop’s mask making contact with Bishop’s right eye, the Lightning goaltender feared the worst.
“Some ooze or water came out right away and I thought my eye was falling out,’’ Bishop said.
Less than 24 hours later, however, Bishop dodged a serious situation and even lobbied to get back in the crease for tonight’s game at Los Angeles but will still dress as the backup to Andrei Vasilevskiy.
“Any time you get it this close, just on the outside of the eye there you feel pretty fortunate and lucky nothing serious happened,’’ Bishop said.
