Tampa Bay Lightning founder Phil Esposito says players these days tell him the flex and whip in their lightweight composite hockey sticks can add 5 to 6 mph to the speed of a shot.
They also are prone to snap in two at inopportune times.
Esposito, an NHL Hall of Fame player, doesn’t get it.
“The truth of the matter is: Why would you want to be in the slot (in front of the net) and have a great opportunity to score and your stick breaks?” he wonders. “I would go crazy. I’d call the stick company.
