September 2, 1984: Chicago defeats Tampa Bay, 34-14

John McKay’s final season as head coach of the Buccaneers began with a trip to the Windy City and QB Jack Thompson silenced the Soldier Field crowd early in the second quarter with a 74-yard bomb to WR Gerald Carter. This turned out to be the longest Tampa Bay passing play of the season.

Unfortunately this score was the high point of the game for the Bucs as Thompson was picked off four times by a Chicago defense that was a year away from its Super Bowl-run but was still a formidable force.
