TAMPA — The Bucs made their first wave of preseason cuts Sunday, releasing 12 players, and in doing so they made newcomer Bryan Anger the punter for 2016.
Anger, a 2012 third-round draft pick of the Jaguars, is on a one-year contract with Tampa Bay. He beat out incumbent Jake Schum, who was among Sunday's cuts. The biggest name cut loose was veteran safety Major Wright, who had 76 tackles in the past two seasons for the Bucs but had fallen into a backup role.
The Bucs must make two more moves by Tuesday to reach the initial roster limit of 75 players, then another 20 by Saturday to reach the final roster of 53.
