TAMPA, Fla. -- The safety position is underrepresented at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott has a theory or two of why, along with why Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos safety and new San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch, who’s been a finalist for four-straight years, is still waiting to get in.
Ken Houston, who was inducted into the hall in 1986, was the last player who spent his entire career at safety. Aeneas Williams, who was inducted in 2014, spent time at cornerback. So did Rod Woodson, who was inducted in 2012.
