Who will be the next Buc to be inducted into the Buccaneer Ring of Honor? Sports Talk Florida is reporting that, on Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will officially make Doug Williams the seventh member of the ring, joining Lee Roy Selmon, Jimmie Giles, Paul Gruber, Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooksand former head coach John McKay.
Taken with the 17th overall pick in the 1978 NFL Draft, Williams became the only starting African-American quarterback at the time. After a terrible rookie season, the Grambling State product improved, successfully working towards getting his interceptions down and the completion percentage up with each season.
Eventually, that focus towards getting better led to success on the field as the Buccaneers, who never made it to the playoffs before drafting Williams, made it to postseason play in three out of the five years he was on the team.
