Players skipping Pro Bowl en masse; game's future in doubt

TAMPA — It has been more than three years since NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sounded the two-minute warning on the Pro Bowl.

Has time expired?

Television ratings for the league’s annual all-star game have steadily declined amid concerns the matchup has been reduced to a glorified scrimmage. The 2016 Pro Bowl, set for Sunday night in Honolulu and televised by ESPN, will feature five Buccaneers — including rookie quarterback Jameis Winston.

Running back Doug Martin, guard Logan Mankins, defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and linebacker Lavonte David also will represent the Bucs.

Winston received his invitation after a record number of players bowed out.
