The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired head coach Lovie Smith late Wednesday night.
Smith went 6-10 this season and 8-24 over two years in charge of the team. The announcement came as a surprise to many because Smith’s job was not considered to be in danger.
The team issued a new release announcing Smith had been relieved of his duties, with this statement from Buccaneers co-chairman Joel Glazer:
“After careful consideration, we informed Lovie that we have decided to make a change. I want to thank Lovie for his hard work and dedication to the Buccaneers during his time here.
