This morning, we posted the fan reactions to Dirk Koetter’s promotion to head coach. Many of you were excited, with some of you still undecided, curious to whom would be hired to be the defensive coordinator. Well, it didn’t take long to find out the answer, as NFL.com is reporting that Mike Smith has been hired for the position. Smith was last seen in the NFL in 2014 with the Atlanta Falcons, where he had been the head coach since 2008, posting a 66-46 record.

Smith and Koetter have a history together, first with the Jaguars in 2007, and then with the Falcons, where Koetter was Smith’s offensive coordinator from 2012-2014.
