SAN FRANCISCO — From the open-and-shut case of quarterback Brett Favre to a contentious 45-minute debate on the merits of mercurial wide receiver Terrell Owens, Saturday’s meeting to elect the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2016 ran the gamut.
When 46 selectors gathered in a convention center meeting room for a session that ran almost nine hours, 17 of the 18 finalists were vetted thoroughly.
Green Bay’s media representative merely stated Favre’s name and promptly sat down, saving us precious time. The rest of the selectors were canvassed for any comments regarding Favre’s candidacy, but there was no discussion as the three-time league MVP waltzed into the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.
