After the retirement of Logan Mankins, Jason Licht new that he had to bring his Buccaneers a replacement. He decided on J.R. Sweezy and signed him to a free agent contract, guaranteeing him $14.5 million. Sweezy passed his physical in March, but he hasn’t spent a moment on the practice field so far.
It looks like it’s going to be quite a while before he does.
Sweezy began training camp on the PUP list. After joining the team, he had surgery to repair a herniated disc. The rehab is taking a bit longer than the team must have expected, and according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Sweezy will begin the season on the PUP list.
