LANDOVER, Md. -- Jameis Winston, game manager?
Not Sunday during a near-perfect first half when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' quarterback, the first overall pick in the April draft, torched the reeling Washington Redskins for a pair of perfectly thrown touchdown passes.
Winston stood strong in the pocket, hitting on 10-of-14 first-half passes for 156 yards and a 147.6 passer rating. It was easily Winston's best showing to date as he showcased the dynamic deep accuracy that made him a Heisman Trophy winner at Florida State.
It helped that his offensive line afforded him plenty of time and big-play receiver Mike Evans blew past cornerback Will Blackmon on Winston's 40-yard touchdown strike.
