Former Leto High, NFL player Deering arrested on grand theft, fraud charges

TAMPA — Former Leto High and Rutgers football player Jeremy Deering, who has had brief stints with three NFL teams, was arrested in New York on an outstanding warrant and booked in Tampa on Thursday night on felony charges of grand theft and depositing checks with intent to defraud.

Deering, 26, was booked at 8:31 p.m. Thursday and remained in jail Friday afternoon, held on $4,000 bond. A Hillsborough County warrant issued for his arrest accused him of cashing two fraudulent payroll checks for a combined $8,934.34 at two Suncoast Credit Union branches in June.

According to the warrant, the listed account holder on the checks was another credit union in New York, which confirmed the checks to be fraudulent.
