The Tampa Bay Buccaneers appear to have targeted former Detroit Lions linebacker Tahir Whitehead as a possible replacement for former starting strongside linebacker Danny Lansanah.
The Bucs have allowed Lansanah to hit the free agent market. The availability of Whitehead, who is visiting One Buccaneer Place on Thursday, may be the reason, according to agent Rodney Williams.
A fifth-round pick (138th overall) out of Temple in 2012, Whitehead started 15 games in place of an injured Stephen Tulloch at middle linebacker in 2014 but moved to strongside linebacker in 2015.
He proved to be a solid playmaker at both positions, racking up 136 tackles, 11 pass breakups and three picks over the last two years to earn a spot on NFL.
