TAMPA — Doug Williams' place in NFL history is secure, and now his name will be a permanent fixture with the Bucs.
Williams, a first-round pick of the Bucs in 1977 who led the expansion franchise to the playoffs three times in five seasons, will be inducted into the team's Ring of Honor.
A formal announcement by the team is scheduled for today during a 2 p.m. news conference at One Buc Place.
Williams, 59, currently works as a personnel executive with the Redskins. He led Washington to a 42-10 victory over Denver in Super Bowl XXII, becoming the first African-American starting quarterback to win an NFL title, and was named the game's most valuable player.
