The Dolphins will hold out running back Arian Foster for at least the first preseason game, and he might sit out the entire preseason.
Coach Adam Gase told Foster, who is coming off an Achilles tendon injury, that he won't play in Friday night's preseason opener at the Giants. Gase also hinted that Cameron Wake, who is also nursing an Achilles injury, won't play.
Foster, who is competing with Jay Ajayi for the starting tailback spot, has been limited in practices, and Gase said he can't afford for the eighth-year pro to suffer any setbacks.
"I have a certain way I treat running backs who have played that long," Gase said of Foster, who has been plagued by durability issues throughout his career.
