Bucs sign defensive tackle Tony McDaniel

At this stage of the game, any signings are all about bolstering the roster. With so much uncertainty surrounding Akeem Spence’s availability this season after undergoing back surgery in early July, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were missing a big part of their rotational defensive tackle depth.

While the Buccaneers already have three solid pieces at defensive tackle with Clinton McDonald, Henry Melton and Gerald McCoy, head coach Lovie Smith has made it a point to give himself roster flexibility at every position. So, with Spence out until October, at best, the Bucs jumped on the opportunity to sign Tony McDaniel, who was released by the Seattle Seahawks earlier this month.
