TAMPA — Monday’s trade for rookie kicker Kyle Brindza figured to spell the end for someone in the Buccaneers kicking arsenal, and that first someone appears to be punter Michael Koenen.
Koenen, who was once given the franchise tag by the Atlanta Falcons, was cut early Tuesday, a Bucs official said.
Koenen was entering his fifth year with the Bucs but coming off a difficult season in which his gross punting average of 40.4 and his net average of 37.1 ranked 34th and 30th overall in the league.
The move is a money-maker for the Bucs, who will save $3.
