TAMPA — As the Buccaneers have already demonstrated in the preseason, extra-point kicks should no longer be considered automatic.
And that has head coach Lovie Smith thinking.
“It’s always tempting to go for two (points),’’ Smith said following Wednesday’s practice. “For us, it’s a good option.’’
The NFL has moved the spot of extra-point attempts back to the 15-yard line this season because pro kickers were converting at a 99 percent rate from the 2-yard line. Tampa Bay’s Patrick Murray missed his extra-point try after the team’s third touchdown in Monday night’s 25-11 preseason triumph against the Bengals.
