INDIANAPOLIS -- Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said comments he made on SiriusXM last month regarding fitting players in a scheme were misconstrued as a shot at former head coach Lovie Smith, who was fired after going 8-24 over two seasons.
When the Buccaneers hired former Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith as the new defensive coordinator, Licht said the following on radio:
"[Mike Smith] is more of a, which is a great thing for a scout and for the GM, is that he’s more about fitting the pieces into a scheme, utilizing the players as what their best attributes are.
