There was more behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ decision to sign former Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Tony McDaniel than their need to find a replacement for the injured Akeem Spence.
After a little more than a week of training camp workouts, the Bucs came to the realization they needed a more dominant run stuffer to shore up their rush defense in the middle of the line.
“We were pretty successful running the ball (in practice) the first couple weeks, which was a good thing,” Bucs general manager Jason Licht said during an interview this weekend on SiriusXM NFL Radio.
