TAMPA — A year ago, the Bucs defense allowed 29 points per game and at times barely put up much of a fight.
On Sunday, the first day in pads, the new defense under coordinator Todd Bowles began fighting back.
Quarterbacks were pressured constantly off the edge by Noah Spence and Carl Nassib, the run game was stuffed repeatedly by Ndamukong Suh and Vita Vea collapsing the line of scrimmage and defensive backs had a feeding frenzy, with a pick six by Vernon Hargreaves during a two-minute drill and several others that were dropped by his teammates in the secondary.
