The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have waived safety Major Wright, and re-signed defensive tackle John Hughes, the team announced today.
Wright was signed a few weeks ago to help replace Chris Conte, who missed the last two weeks with a chest injury. Wright’s release is a pretty good indication that Conte’s set to return, as the Bucs don’t have much depth at the safety position.
The fact that Keith Tandy has played very well while filling in for Conte probably doesn’t hurt, either. It’ll be interesting to see whether Tandy holds on to some playing time with Conte healthy, given his two interceptions in two games.
