TAMPA — Alterraun Verner heard the question and tried not to laugh.
The veteran cornerback of the Buccaneers was asked whether Tampa Bay could be looking past winless Houston in Sunday’s matchup at NRG Stadium.
“The way I look at it, we were 2-14 last year,’’ Verner said before Thursday’s practice. “I don’t think we’re in any position to take anybody lightly.’’
The Bucs rebounded from a 42-14 home loss against Tennessee by holding off the Saints 26-19 at the Superdome, ending an eight-game losing streak against NFC South opponents.
While Tampa Bay is relatively healthy, the Texans could be missing several key starters as they try to avoid an 0-3 start.
