TAMPA — “Did I tell you we were 2-14 last year?”
Lovie Smith was poking fun at himself. Remember how he spent last season reminding us that he’d been out of the NFL the previous year. It became a running joke.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to stop being one themselves. They’ve spent more time in the basement than Smith ever did watching film during his year-long NFL sabbatical.
Now comes 2015. Smith has made some changes, buried some roster and staff mistakes. He will jump in and call defensive plays. And he’ll entrust the Bucs’ future to rookie quarterback Jameis Winston.
