Buccaneers Release Punter Michael Koenen

The Buccaneers announced that they have released punter Michael Koenen on Tuesday morning. The 11-year veteran has served as the Bucs’ punter for the past four seasons, dating back to 2011.

After the Buccaneers waived Karl Schmitz on Sunday, Jacob Schum is the lone punter remaining on the team’s roster. Schum averaged 51.2 yards on four punts against the Browns in the Bucs’ third preseason game on Saturday.

In addition to Schum, placekicker Kyle Brindza, whom the Bucs traded for on Monday, has punted in the preseason, averaging 49.3 yards per kick. Fellow kicker Patrick Murray can also punt, though he’s never done so on the professional level.
