The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will re-sign safety Major Wright and waive running back Mike James, the team announced today.
The Bucs are also waiving wide receiver Louis Murphy from reserve/PUP, a move that had been expected for a while — Murphy was rehabbing a torn ACL but suffered a separate injury after returning to practice, forcing the Bucs to place him on the reserve list instead.
Re-signing Wright likely indicates Chris Conte’s undisclosed injury is significant to keep him out for Sunday’s game against the San Diego Chargers, or at least jeopardize his participation. Wright started nine games for the Bucs the past two seasons, after starting 51 in four seasons with the Chicago Bears.
