The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have promoted linebacker Josh Keyes to the active roster, and waived tight end/fullback Alan Cross, the team announced today.
Keyes has likely been promoted because rookie Devante Bond is struggling with a hamstring injury and has been ruled out for Sunday’s game. Keyes played in seven games for the Bucs last season, almost exclusively as a special teamer. That should be his role tomorrow as well.
As for Cross, he made the roster over Dan Vitale at fullback, but I guess the Bucs have decided they don’t really need a dedicated fullback. Luke Stocker can be a pretty good lead blocker, and Cross isn’t exactly going to be a special pass-catcher anyway.
