Buccaneers, Chris Godwin take a positive step towards a new deal

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and star wide receiver Chris Godwin have taken a strategic step towards securing his future with the team. In a move that works out for both sides on many fronts, the Buccaneers have extended the void year on Godwin’s contract. This maneuver allows both parties additional time to negotiate a new, potentially long-term deal without immediate pressure.

Greg Auman of Fox Sports had some details.

Chris Godwin’s current contract was due to void, triggering $18 million in dead money against the Bucs’ 2025 cap, but the two sides agreed to move that void date to the final day of the league year (March 12).
