The NFL has decided getting Tom Brady and winning Super Bowl 55 wasn’t quite enough to make up for the losses of their 2020 free-agents who signed elsewhere. Because of this, the team has been awarded a compensatory draft pick in the sixth-round of the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft.
The Super Bowl win doesn’t actually factor into the awarding of compensatory picks. Instead, “Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The formula was developed by the NFL management council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula.
