The Miami Dolphins have signed Alterraun Verner, the cornerback confirmed today. Verner had been on the market since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut him before free agency this year.
Verner originally signed with the Bucs back in 2014, when Lovie Smith wanted to build his Tampa 2-style defense and saw in Verner a potential Ronde Barber—a cornerback who could take away the ball and excel in zone coverage. Alas, it was not to be, as Verner disappointed throughout his three-year stint with the Bucs.
That’s not to say that Verner was outright terrible, he just eh.
