Syracuse defensive coordinator Tony White is a nominee for the Broyles Award, presented annually to the nation's top assistant coach.
White's defense ranks in the top-20 nationally for the second year in a row. The Mob ranks 18th nationally in total defense (318.2) and in the top-five in the conference in scoring defense (third), first down defense (fourth), defensive touchdowns (second), passing yards allowed (second), blocked kicks (fourth) and turnovers gained (fifth).
The continued growth of the defense has been a staple under White. The Orange surrendered 464 yards per game prior to his arrival, which has decreased each year since he took over down to 318 this season.
