Syracuse, N.Y. -- Western Michigan football coach Tim Lester fired defensive coordinator Tim Daoust amid a three-game losing streak that has dampened excitement around Lester's second season.
The school announced the move in a press release Wednesday night, with Lester saying in a statement the program needed to go in another direction.
Lester was the offensive coordinator at Syracuse in 2015 under Scott Shafer after being hired as his quarterbacks coach two years prior. Daoust had been the defensive line coach at Syracuse from 2011-15.
Western Michigan (6-5, 4-3 Mid-American Conference) has lost three straight, including a 42-41 overtime loss at Ball State (4-7, 3-4), and has given up 152 points in that span.
