The No. 5/7 Syracuse women's lacrosse team suffered its first setback of the season in a 17-16 loss at No. 9/11 Virginia on Sunday
SU freshman Emily Hawryschuk scored her fourth goal of the game to bring the Orange within one with 1:35 remaining, but Syracuse turned it over on its final possession to give the Cavaliers the victory in the ACC opener for both teams.
Hawryschuk and freshman Sam Swart tallied four goals each, while senior Riley Donahue also had four points on two goals and two assists.
Syracuse's Mary Rahal recorded her third goal of the game on an assist from Donahue at the 7:03 mark to even the score at 15-15 for the eighth tie of the game.
