SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Eric Spina first realized the possibility when he saw leaked brackets on Sunday evening.
The NCAA was pitting Syracuse University against the University of Dayton in the national men's basketball tournament.
Spina's a professor at SU and until 2014 was its provost -- the second-highest position at the school. He'll start as Dayton's new president in July.
"I'm poring through this leaked bracket and I come upon Syracuse and Dayton," Spina said. "And I said, 'Oh my gosh, this can't possibly be.'"
After the matchup was confirmed on TV, Dayton fans went on Twitter saying it would put Spina's allegiance to the test.
