Syracuse's Jim Boeheim on Pearl Washington: 'He was one of a kind'

Syracuse, N.Y. — Jim Boeheim fought back tears as he remembered Pearl Washington.

Washington, the legendary former Syracuse player, has passed away after a months-long battle with brain cancer.

The news was announced by the school on Wednesday morning.

"He was one of a kind,'' Boeheim said of Washington. "They don't come along like him very often. There's never been another one like him.''

Washington played at Syracuse from 1983 to 1986, packing the Carrier Dome and thrilling Syracuse fans with his exploits.

"I think of the pure excitement and joy that he brought to the game,'' Boeheim said.
