The Syracuse Orange women’s tennis squad had their 2019 season ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Syracuse was defeated by the defending national champions Stanford Cardinal on Sunday.
Third-ranked Stanford won the doubles point and then took three points in the singles matches to clinch the home victory. The Syracuse point was scored by Sofya Golubovskaya who upset the Cardinal’s Melissa Lord at the No.2 singles. The loss was the 1st ever for Lord in NCAA team competition and ended her 16-match win streak.
The Orange defeated the Wisconsin Badgers in the first round by a score of 4-2 to earn the second NCAA victory in Syracuse program history.
