With their third game against a ranked opponent in a week, the No. 4/4 Syracuse Orange women’s lacrosse team finished a seven game homestand on a high note. The Orange (6-1, 1-1 ACC) slowly opened up a seven goal lead early in the second half en route to a 16-11 win over the No. 6/7 Virginia Cavaliers (5-1, 0-1 ACC) on Saturday afternoon.
SU jumped out to a 2-0 lead four minutes into the game off of Emily Hawryschuk and Mary Rahal goals. The Cavaliers would keep it within one or two goals throughout much of the first half and trailed only 5-4 with 8:48 left when Avery Shoemaker scored on a man-up situation.
