Syracuse, N.Y. — It was not a surprise that Drexel tried to take the air out of the basketball when it played the Syracuse women on Monday.
The shocker was the extent to which that tactic, one the Orange has seen so often the past few years, wound up working.
Drexel moved the contest into the slow lane so effectively that it tripped No. 11 Syracuse 62-61 on a three-pointer with nine seconds left. So, if ever so briefly, the Orange has lost its tempo.
No biggie, except that Syracuse must recalibrate against one of the toughest runs of competition it will face this season.
