Syracuse, N.Y. — There will be no participation trophies awarded after tonight's women's college basketball game between Syracuse and Louisville.
One team will win and feel great.
One team will lose and feel crummy.
And that's the exactly way Orange coach Quentin Hillsman and Louisville's Jeff Walz want it.
Hillsman and Walz are long-time rivals on the benches of their respective teams. Hillsman caught a glimpse of a dissertation by Walz after the Cardinals lost to Maryland on Dec. 1 that sparked national discussion.
In the lengthy remarks, Walz bemoaned the way society coddles young athletes in dealing with adversity and defeat.
