Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse women's basketball guard Gabrielle Cooper appreciates that it's hard enough to can long three-pointers against the tough defenses of Division I foes.
But when your own coach is chirping you just before you reach your release point, that makes a basket's bulls-eye seem even smaller.
Such was the position that Cooper found herself in during one of her early games as an Orange freshman two seasons ago. Cooper was recruited as a long-range specialist, and she was eager to fulfill that role when she pulled up from deep behind the three-point line.
Too deep, as it turns out, for Syracuse coach Quentin Hillsman.
