Syracuse University releases image of how new Carrier Dome roof will fit into skyline

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse University released a new image of its planned Carrier Dome renovation on Monday, showing how a new roof would fit into the City of Syracuse skyline.

In the photo, the familiar rounded Dome shape is accompanied in the skyline by portions of the "cable-truss" system that will help the new roof maintain its stability.

The "cable-truss" system will replace the current air-supported roof, a technology that has gone out of style in buildings as big as the Carrier Dome largely due to cost and maintenance concerns.

Syracuse has said previously that the new roof will include a hard material on the outside third of the roof, with a semi-translucent material covering the inner two-thirds.
