If it seems like each week that a new Syracuse Orange track school record is broken, it's because it isn't that far off. SU's distance runners returned to Stanford last weekend for the Payton Jordan Invitational. This time the outdoor 5k record fell as Freshman Justyn Knight turned in a time of 13:34.86, which beat the previous record of 13:46.46 set by Jim O'Connell back in 1982. Senior Martin Hehir was close behind Knight and also finished well under the previous record with a time of 13:35.70.
The times also place Knight and Hehir in the top 10 nationally in the event, which gives them both two events where they are still among the top 10 (Knight in the 1500 and 5k and Hehir in the 5k and 10k).
